Fellowship Details
9 month core Surgical ICU rotation. Broad based multidisciplinary team based approach to critically ill patients. Excellent support team of Nutritionists, Pharmacists, Physical therapists and excellent Nursing staff. The SICU has its own dedicated Echocardiography/ Ultrasound equipment and fellows are encouraged to learn  the use of ultrasound for bedside procedures like thoracentesis, complex central venous line placements. Electives can be arranged. Previous electives include Echocardiography, Operating room, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Radiology,  Bronchoscopy and Research. Regular didactics including Fellow lectures and  journal clubs. Encouraged to work on independent and ongoing research studies. Airway management experience for non Anesthesiology trained Fellows will be arranged.

Fellows are encouraged to become Certified instructors in ATLS and FCCS courses. Education fund for Textbooks, Journals and Conferences . Online access to current Journals and literature through University of Iowa 's Hardin Medical Library. Academic time for research activity is negotiable.
