Educational Objectives

 

 

 

Upon completion of a RASCI workshop, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the physics of the nerve stimulator.
  • Explain three dimensional anesthetic and functional human anatomy.
  • Review surface anatomy necessary for the practice of modern Regional Anesthesia.
  • Perform surface transcutaneous non-invasive nerve “mapping” and single-injection peripheral nerve and plexus blocks.  
  • Place catheters for continuous blocks on the brachial plexus via the interscalene approach, the cervical paravertebral approach, the infraclavicular approach and the axillary approach.
  • Place catheters for continuous blocks on the lumbar plexus via the lumbar paravertebral approach (psoas compartment) and anterior approaches.
  • Place catheters for continuous blocks for continuous thoracic and high lumbar paravertebral blocks.
  • Place catheters for continuous blocks on the femoral and the sciatic nerves.
  • Tunnel the catheters for continuous nerve blocks subcutaneously to prevent dislodgement.
  • Manage continuous nerve and plexus blocks and remove catheters safely.
