Application Process
 
Fellowship Details
  • 9 month core Surgical ICU rotation.
  • Broad based multidisciplinary team based approach to critically ill patients. Excellent support team of Nutritionists, Pharmacists, Physical therapists and excellent Nursing staff.
  • The SICU has its own dedicated Echocardiography/Ultrasound equipment and fellows are encouraged to learn the use of ultrasound for bedside procedures like thoracentesis, complex central venous line placements.
  • Electives can be arranged. Previous electives include Echocardiography, Operating room, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Radiology, Bronchoscopy and Research.
  • Regular didactics including Fellow lectures and journal clubs.
  • Encouraged to work on independent and ongoing research studies.
  • Airway management experience for non Anesthesiology trained Fellows will be arranged.

  • Fellows are encouraged to become Certified instructors in ATLS and FCCS courses.
  • Education fund for Textbooks, Journals and Conferences .
  • Online access to current Journals and literature through University of Iowa 's Hardin Medical Library.
  • Academic time for research activity is negotiable.
