This is a one-year (12 month) fellowship beginning after satisfactory completion of a residency program in anesthesiology as required for entry into the examination system of the American Board of Anesthesiology. This fellowship is currently not accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Fellowship Description

A didactic and educational program specifically dedicated to ambulatory anesthesia is part of the fellowship curriculum. As part of the didactic curriculum, the fellow will participate either as a scholar or as an instructor a minimum of once during the academic year.

Fellows participate in new or ongoing clinical research that leads to the publication and presentation of an abstract, and eventual publication in peer-reviewed literature. Opportunities in basic science research and translational medicine may be pursued after the one year clinical fellowship.

The Fellows will manage a large volume of patients undergoing a variant of ambulatory surgery procedures.

Rotations (one month minimum) will consist of comprehensive experience that includes, but is not limited to: office based anesthesia, ambulatory surgery center rotation, perioperative medicine, regional anesthesia for ambulatory surgery, pediatric ambulatory anesthesia, and administrative and leadership training including practice experience in day-to-day administration.

Clinical experience will include rotations involving anesthesia for outpatients undergoing the following surgeries: Orthopedic surgery (arthroscopic surgery, foot surgery); gynecologic surgery (laparoscopic surgery, hysteroscopic surgery); genitourinary procedures; general surgery (laparoscopic surgery); thoracic surgery (thoracoscopic surgery; mediastinoscopic surgery); neurosurgical procedures; ENT/Ophthalmologic procedures, oral surgery; plastic surgery; and interventional radiology procedures.
