AMAAC is comprised of the Chairs of 33 Anesthesia Departments in the Midwestern United States and Canada, ranging geographically from northern New York State to Omaha and Kansas City. Its role is to facilitate and support the Midwestern Anesthesia Residents Conference (MARC). This yearly meeting, which began at the University of Iowa in 1961, has grown into the largest anesthesia resident's conference in North America and in the world, with attendance approaching (and sometimes exceeding) 700 individuals each year. The MARC meeting is hosted by AMAAC member departments on a rotating basis, and the AMAAC member-chairs meet yearly at the MARC meeting.
