Congratulations to Drs. Ron Abrons and Donna Hammond

Congratulations to Dr. Ron Abrons, who received a $47,650 Commercialization GAP Fund award from the Office of the Vice President for Research for his project, “Articulated Oral Airway Functional Prototyping.”  These funds will be used for further design advancement and high-fidelity prototypes for testing and marketing purposes of his patented Articulated Oral Airway. This is Dr. Abrons’ second Commercialization GAP Fund Award.

We would also like to congratulate Dr. Donna Hammond, who received a two year $50,000 seed grant from the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and Oberley Seed Grant Program for her project, “Can Relief of Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) by Nicotinamide Riboside be Achieved in Tumor-Bearing Rats in the Absence of Tumorigenic Activity?”  This proposal seeks to replicate the findings made in cancer-naïve rats in tumor-bearing rats to increase the clinical relevance of the findings.  Dr. Hammond hopes to demonstrate that nicotinamide riboside relieves CIPN in rodents with breast cancer tumors, and does not promote tumor growth or metastases or prevent the beneficial effects of chemotherapy.
