Center for Pain Medicine and Regional Anesthesia

The UIHC Pain Medicine Clinic is an anesthesia-based, multi-disciplinary subspecialty clinic dedicated to the management of complex acute, chronic and cancer related painful disorders. Our staff is comprised by a group of compassionate Pain Medicine specialists with base training in Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pharmacy, and Nursing. We are strong advocates of multidisciplinary management and will establish the need for inter-specialty consultations, coordinate these evaluations and closely work with different specialties such as physical therapy (exercises, massage therapy, ultrasound, TENS), psychology (cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, biofeedback, coping), and alternative medicine (acupuncture).

Our objective is to design a comprehensive, individualized, state-of-the-art diagnostic plan and institute a multimodal treatment plan that may decrease pain and suffering, and ameliorate our patients’ ability to perform physical activities. The final goal is to allow patients to return to their optimal level of functioning and improve their overall quality of life. We provide inpatient and outpatient consultation services and offer ongoing guidance and support to primary care physicians and all other specialties. Our direct involvement involves the maximization of pharmacological therapies, as well as the performance of advanced; image guided interventional treatments, as adjuncts, when appropriately indicated. These procedures include, but are not limited to: epidural injections, sacroiliac and facet joint injections, radiofrequency neurolysis, neurolytic blocks, sympathetic blocks, peripheral nerve blocks, discography, spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal drug delivery systems.
