Clinical Psychologist, Center for Pain Management and Regional Anesthesia

 

 

 

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Department of Anesthesia is actively recruiting for one, faculty appointed, Clinical Psychologist for the Center for Pain Management and Regional Anesthesia. The Pain Clinic Psychologist will carry out psycho-diagnostic and psycho-therapeutic activities for the Anesthesia Pain Medicine Service. The Psychologist will develop psychological assessments and cognitive treatments in parallel with other multidisciplinary activities with general direction provided by the Director of the Pain Clinic.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology from an accredited university or professional school, including didactic & clinical training in pain management, health psychology & biological bases of behavior in clinical medicine. Other required qualifications include; current valid license to practice psychology in the State of Iowa, reasonable (1-3 years) experience in Clinical Psychotherapy, training and experience in empirically supported treatments of pain conditions, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Biofeedback, etc., documented experience dealin with a wide variety of pain conditions, knowledge of biofeedback as it relates to pain management, knowledge of tolerance & addiction in pain patients, conversant in anatomy & physiology of pain, pharmacologic, surgical & procedural treatments for pain, demonstrated ability to function independently without direct clinical supervision and excellent interpersonal & communication skills.

Perioperative, Clinical Anesthesia

 

 

 

The Department of Anesthesia is seeking Anesthesiologists with interest and expertise in several important clinical areas including; ambulatory, cardiovascular/thoracic, obstetrical, neurosurgical, pediatric, regional and/or transplant anesthesia. 

Candidates must hold an MD, DO, MBBS or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the state of Iowa.  Qualified candidates must show successful completion of an approved residency training program in Anesthesiology.  Qualified candidates must be certified by the American Board of Anesthesiologists or the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology or be in the certification process.  Internationally-trained physicians who hold an equivalent certification may be considered for appointment.  Desirable qualifications for this position include; either fellowship training or equivalent clinical experience in any of the aforementioned subspecialty areas and an interest in teaching and/or basic or clinical research.

The Department of Anesthesia of the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Medical Director of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine.

The Department of Anesthesia of the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Medical Director of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine. This position is available to highly qualified individuals at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with fellowship training in Regional Anesthesiology. A significant record of educational or research success is required, as well as significant clinical and leadership experience.

Qualified candidates must show successful completion of an approved residency program in Anesthesiology and completion of a fellowship in Regional Anesthesiology. Pediatric Anesthesia

The University of Iowa, Department of Anesthesia is actively recruiting faculty for its rapidly growing Pediatric Anesthesia group.   Candidates must hold an MD, DO, MBBS or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa.  Candidates must be certified by the American Board of Anesthesiologists or be in the certification process. On occasion, individuals trained outside of the United States and who are certified by an equivalent national certification group (e.g. the Royal College of Anesthetists of Canada, Australia, Ireland or Great Britain) may be considered if they possess unique skills and/or experience.  Successful candidates will have completed an approved residency training program in Anesthesiology.  They must also have completed a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship in an ACGME certified (or equivalent) program prior to beginning work at Iowa and must be in good standing in the fellowship program.   It is expected that fellows should pass their Pediatric Anesthesia board certification within two years of fellowship completion.  Appointment may be as an Associate (non-track) or on either the tenure or clinical track at any rank as based on qualifications.

The University of Iowa Children's Hospital is the largest children's hospital in Iowa and has been continuously ranked among the top children's hospitals in the country. We are also well underway for the construction of a new, free-standing Children's Hospital which is due to open in spring of 2016.  We currently perform all types of pediatric surgical procedures including complex neurosurgical and cardiovascular surgery. All monitoring modalities are in standard use.  Our anesthesiologists are supported by a large team of monitoring techs, IT and data management technologists, research assistants and statisticians. The Department also has an extensive and well organized mentoring program for young faculty.

Pain Medicine Specialist

The Department of Anesthesia is seeking physicians at all ranks with interest and expertise in Pain Medicine. Qualified candidates must show successful completion of an approved residency program in Anesthesiology, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or Psychiatry and completion of an ACGME approved fellowship in Pain Medicine and completion of a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Candidates must have received board certification in Pain Medicine by their respective specialty Board or must be enrolled in the examination process. Candidates must also hold an MD, DO, MBBS or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa. Individuals with training in areas other than Anesthesiology may also be eligible for appointment in the Department of their primary training (e.g. Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry). Candidates must be certified by the American Boards of Anesthesiology, Psychiatry and Neurology or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as being certified in Pain Medicine by their respective sub-specialty board (or must be enrolled in the examination process). Skill and experience in regional anesthesia and/or interventional pain techniques and a strong interest in teaching and/or basic or clinical research are highly desirable for this position. Desirable applicants will have a particular interest in the management of pediatric chronic pain.
